Column of Trout / Partager - "Split / Lop" album review

A beautiful dream of passions in the clay. Abstract and yet kinda only described as very human. Dissonant and avant-garde, yet, surprisingly catchy. Easy listening broadcast from the green flames of heck. The first half is like Kurt Cobain bedrooms demos using the convenience of modern technology.

Column of trout's half is moving like a sequence of a single song with all four tracks.

If it's a guitar they are getting some unique sounds out of it. Everything is drenched affects in the shoegaze tradition.

The emotion this is eliciting is something akin to Tim Rogers review of God hand (which uses a number girl track for the soundtrack).

More akin to late 80s idea of avant-garde than the captain beef heart definition.

It is chill until the second half by Partager kicks off then your in psychedelic wall of sound. That reminds me of Siberian peaks by mgmt.

Very ambient like a Guy Maddin film. cinematic in how it solicits images without language. I can also hear similarities to the silent hill games soundtrack.

Top tracks: sea dive by Partager and Buddy by Columns of Trout.

Is it worth listening to? If you can handle Kurt Cobain's bedroom demos or mgmt second album this is like a rare animal that is a hybrid of two things I personally (and unnecessarily specific) am fond of and would recommend to anyone who can handle anything that is not designed to be top forty singles.

Yes this is avant-garde, but it is no more demanding than loveless by my bloody valentine. This is an easy recommend for me to give you to the reader. if you enjoy surrealism, Dada, or avant-garde rock n roll (père ubu, or captain beef heart) then this may very well may be for you.

Great review! I had a little flick through some of these songs and it sounds right up my street so I'm gonna have to have a proper listen later
