Upon the opening moments of All Night Long two things hit you immediately
- This is a big sounding song
- This is rock music as you know it
That second point, I suspect, might put some people off. I would lying if I said I didn't think there was a whiff of dad-rock here, and that it wasn't something that I had to brace myself for.
I'm sticking with it, though, because while this is a very traditional and very American sounding rock and roll song, Jason has happened to catch me on a day where I decided to wear my Hard Rock Café t-shirt and so I'm down to clown.
The vocals sound great, the guitars are fat and scuzzy, and the chorus is catchy as hell. There's a tonne of energy here, with just enough looseness to the performances to make it sound really alive. All of this helps me forgive the cornier aspects of the song.
It seems to be about being in a relationship that is doomed (the Bandcamp description explains that it "could" fall apart, but it seems to me like Jason knows it will fall apart), but I'd be lying if I said I felt particularly engaged in the narrative of the song. The thing that's getting me is the guitars and the melody, the song could be about eating tuna sandwiches for all I care.
So, I'd recommend the song if you like your rock to be rawk. I think it really delivers on that front - it's catchy, loud, and bombastic. However, I think some people, especially people whose tastes veer towards more alternative or less rocking fare, might find it a little on the derivative side.
