Today we are reviewing a videogame soundtrack, and I'm quite excited about it because, according to my research, the game is a point-and-click murder mystery, which is one of my favourite game genres. This one in particular is set in the Caribbean, and folows the investigation of the ghost of a girl who's trying to catch her own killer.
The soundtrack immediatly throws us in the noir atmosphere, with jazzy piano chords that create the right amount of suspense, and the walking basslines that transport the listener in a narrow dark alley following footprints and identifying cigarettes' ashes. At the same time, the Caribbean music is represented by the catchy percussions, and occasionally by some reggae-like chords as in the closing track "Close attention". This combination, which may appear unlikely to work well, is actually pretty solid. You can totally immerse yourself in the Sherlock Holmes vibes, but the the colours of the Caribbean music makes you escape from the clichés of the genre.
The biggest flaw of this album is the short duration. It absolutely left us wanting to hear more, and I mean this as a compliment. The seven tracks barely span 10 minutes, which is not a lot, (especially considering the price), but definitely work well as an advertisement for the game, because they made me incredibly curious to try it.
