Are you getting hungry?

First Bite is a song about giving yourself permission to change, and letting go of your perception of yourself. At least that's what the track description states, but I kind of feel that the definition underplays it a bit and, dare I say, feels like halovox not quite taking their own advice.

I say this because there seems to be a pretty specific change in play, at least if I am to take the lyrics at face value. The lyrics, to me, are filled with sexuality, and it's hard not to read the song as someone coming to terms with their own sexuality. I don't necessarily mean in terms of coming out as queer, but rather just someone viewing themselves as a sexual being after a time of repression.

Lines like

Just because I shake it loose it doesn't mean that I don't like it tight

and

If I start off hard and fast it doesn't mean that I won't go all night

and

When you're feeling good, it doesn't mean you're sinning

cement this, for me, and when it seems so obvious to me it makes me wonder if there's still a sense of reservation in not mentioning that aspect in the track notes.

Of course, it could be that halovox doesn't want to overexplain themselves, and that's something I think is completely valid. It's just that the feeling is something I can't shake when I listen to the vocal delivery either. You've got this very cool and punchy, obviously Nine Inch Nails inspired backing track, with a vocal performance that to me seems kind of lacking in conviction. I wanna hear halovox shouting at the top of their lungs, but it sounds like they're worried someone will hear, and I think that's a shame.

It's a shame because, outside of that, the song rips. I love the bass synth and the aggressive groove. The chorus is fantastic, too, like it's so good, and the singer does start to come alive at this point a bit too.

So to answer halovox's question, yes, I'm really hungry. I'm hungry to hear this track reach it's full potential.
