I promise you I mean this positively: the theater kid essence drips from this track. While the music itself is a jaunty jazzy bluesy number with some very pleasant walking bass, you can hear the attitude in every syllable of Jonathan's delivery as he shakes his head and laments (with a certain sense of humor) the sociopolitical muck we're in and, as the refrain goes, having to keep sobriety while dealing with all this nonsense. The jazz flourishes and deft piano work keep things interesting across the relatively simple form, while my ears were piqued by the pounding dissonance that appears in the bridge and the a cappella penultimate chorus that really showcases the vocal harmonies. What truly ties it all together is the stellar production; every instrument and voice can be heard crisply and powerfully like the most intimate of jazz albums, leaving the listener space to hear more depth every time you hit repeat - and you will hit repeat because the rhythms and pathos are infectious. This world IS too beautiful to be ruined by a handful of assholes and Jonathan makes sure you won't forget that anytime soon.
