What an odd song this is! Written on his son's Casio keyboard "between bath time and bedtime", this instrumental piece revolves around some fairly heavy percussion, a piano, and a very distorted but difficult to identify lead part. Is it a synth? The description mentions a trumpet but it doesn't quite sound real to me. Whatever it is, it is the centre of attention in this piece that stomps along without a care in the world.
I really do love the production here. Everything sounds very hot and saturated and it gives a lot of energy to the track. There's a sense of triumphant mischief, at times feeling like watching someone get a top score in Trombone Champ. While that lead wails over the top of everything, a bass fuzzes, coming in an out of view, while big piano chords punch through. The whole time, the clack clack clack of the drums persist and drag the whole thing forward.
It's great. I've listened to it several times and I've not gotten bored of it. The description states the track is about "self-reincarnation", remoulding yourself after pain and loss. I'm not sure how much of that I get from it. The sounds are too fun for something that heavy, and I suppose this is the problem with explaining the meaning behind things rather than letting them speak for themselves.
It is triumphant, though, as previously stated. It feels proud. And I suppose that is the sound of coming back after being knocked down. Either way, if you can hack people asking you what the hell you're listening to, there's a lot here to love and I really do love it.
