GOD RIBBON - "Motion Picture Soundtrack" track review

Maybe I'm not the right person to write this review, since I've never really listened to much Radiohead, but I absolutely loved this track. I think it hit me even harder because I'm currently in the mood for listening to solo singers with a guitar and a really unique personality, in the style of Gustavo Pena or Daniel Johnston. I think GOD RIBBON has a lot of the latter. You can really hear the passion he puts into the guitar and the raw emotion in his voice.

You could say the track is clearly divided into two parts. The first one is acoustic, with the vocals taking center stage, and then there's a second part where an effect drenched electric guitar comes in, very much in the shoegaze style, along with what seems to be a ghostly choir covered in reverb. I think what I enjoyed the most was the vocal delivery. It struck me as a really strong performance that doesn't just copy the original track, but instead gives it its own personality and style. I ended up having to listen to the original track afterward.

For some reason, listening to it made me really want to listen to In the Aeroplane Over the Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel. I don't know if there are actually any similarities or not, but sometimes art connects in unexpected ways.

Either way, this is a beautiful cover by GOD RIBBON. Highly recommended.

Aw thanks so much for the review! I put this together pretty quickly on a whim but was really happy with the result, so I'm glad it clicked with you. I absolutely love both Daniel Johnston and Neutral Milk Hotel so I'm glad those influences came through
