Savannah Grand - "From Yesterday's Perspective" album review

From Yesterday's Perspective cover art

From Yesterday's Perspective is full of good ideas that are routinely left unexplored. I suppose it's a good thing that my biggest complaint is that I want more, but I can't help but have mixed feelings.

In track 1, Why Are Things So Heavy In The Future?, we're presented with a chill, lofi, synthwave inspired groove paired with a metal bassline. This unlikely duo gels incredibly well. I could listen to a whole album like this.

The lofi ambience in track 2, Fertilizing Daffodils // Whispering Legacies, is executed perfectly. No complaints here. I could also listen to a whole album like this.

Tracks 4, 6, 7, and 8 all start strong only to abandon their ideas in one way or another. A few transform into entirely different songs, and one stops abruptly. The lack of commitment is really only frustrating because these are ideas worth committing to.

At the same time, the album has an airy laid back feeling. You can plainly feel that it was fun to make, and this feeling is special. Despite wanting more, it hits a casual sweet spot that's quite charming. Maybe if this were a more confidently produced album that commits to each of its ideas, it would lose the spark that makes it special.

If you're looking for a laid back album with some fun musical ideas, this is definitely a good choice. I would certainly listen to this again personally, but I'm much more excited for the day we see a sequel.

I just want to follow up by emphasizing that I did enjoy the album. I hope this review doesn't come across too negative.
