WORLD-ENDING FIRE is an instrumental dark ambient post-rock album deeply grounded in our relationship to hope and the eternal stillness of the present moment.

We open with shimmering dreamy textures before the introduction of slow rock drums and carefully strummed guitar chords. The pacing is gradual and patient, seemingly unconcerned with its destination as if existing in that surreal timelessness of the extended Swedish winter night. This feeling is only more pronounced in the second track. Opening with the sound of gently faltering strings, the drum and guitar come into place just as my mind starts to drift.

The third track Poem on Hope takes us to a place of hopeful contentment. With a strumming echoing dreamily around us and a beautifully simplistic bass line, the track evolves with a delicate subtlety in its gentle repetition. The drumming is soft but thoughtfully varied and always responsive to the moment in a way that betrays a deep sense of restraint and understated confidence.

However, the mood takes a turn as the night goes on. The fire is gone and the reality of the darkness sets in. Track four, the poisoned river--the mountain cast into the valley haunts us with eerie textures, spoken word, and the rhythmic pulse of the guitar. From this darkness emerges a defiance, a refusal to accept defeat, to accept that our own capacity for harm is without remedy. This hopefully aggressive tone in track five is accomplished through more assertive drumming and boldly sustained guitar playing. The journey is brought to a close with the comparatively spacious simplicity of the final track Day-blind stars (waiting with their light). The track slowly builds upon itself one layer at a time before a succinct spoken word delivery brings the message into focus, initializing a final eruption that fades into completion.

The narrative arc of the album is powerful and emotional, suited primarily for engaged listening.
