The Minneapolis band Atomic Energy Commission decided to name this release "Microdose 1", and I'd say the title is quite effective. The EP contains 3 songs, with the longest one being 3 minutes and 10 seconds, so the excessive lenght is definitely not an issue here.
The tracks are definitely fun, rough on purpose, almost punk in the attitude. The vocals are coarse, barking the lyrics in the listener's ears. The guitars are fuzzy, punchy, dirty, lo-fi, and we like them this way. The bass is acid, with a goth flavour here and there that matches the singing style quite well. The drums are also very unclean, providing a solid backbone for the songs.
Like any respectaple punk-ish release, the lyrics are full of pessimism and sarcasms, with crude images and dissacrating takes on pop culture (I particularly loved the Star Wars themed pun in the title of the opening track).
I don't know if the goal of this microdose was to get the audience addicted, but it definitely made me want to dig deeper in the band's discography. If you enjoy some old school garage rock, with some Stooges vibes, I suggest giving it a try.
