The title of this track ("Play it away") and the cover art suggest that this song by the Singapore-based author Adrian Bestium will have a sort of playful theme. When we press "play", we indeed find ourselves in a colourful playground, but there's something slightly eerie in the sounds that creates a sort of "squid-game" effect, where the childhood themes are presented in an unsettling and sometimes scary fashion. The wobbly basses remind me a bit of Primus (I might be slightly biased having seen them live recently), who are also famous for a very cartoonish but creepy aesthetics. I tried imagining what a music video for this track would look like. I can definitely visualise a row of oddly-coloured elephants marching and dancing following the song's rhythm, and a merry-go-round with all sort of animals for seats. The vibe is very hypnotic. Depending on the mood I can see myself using it as a background music for writing horror stories, dancing to it while cleaning the house, or falling asleep to it after putting it in a loop for 15 times and let myself go to wild fever dreams. The only common denominator is the fun, because this is a fun track to listen to, no matter the angle you take it from.
