Here we are again with another track from the Hamburg-based artist dentalplan. Having already encountered their music before, I can see some similarities with the other track I have reviewed not too long ago. The jungle vibes given by the percussions are not too dissimilar from those in "boundary functions", and some of the samples also sound very familiar.
Despite these similarities, I didn't get a sense of dejà-vu while listening to "waterfall". This track remains in chill territories, with the percussion taking on the main role from the start. The pads creat a delicate background texture, like a thin backcloth in a small theatre, simple but essential.
The track manages to present an interesting evolution despite the short duration. The percussions become slightly more aggressive and distorted in the second half of the song, but the gradual change makes it feel natural and does not disrupt the overall relaxed atmosphere.
I remember saying that the previous track would fit a videogame soundtrack very well. I can't say the same for "waterfall", but I would definitely appreciate to hear this song in a nature documentary or in a yoga session. Hope the artist takes it as a compliment because that is exactly my intention.
