REM90 cover art

I wasn’t familiar with Francis Bleu and his style of glitch inspired R&B performance but REM90 intrigued me. Within his description, he stated that the song was inspired by sleep paralysis and the mixing, production and overall feel of the single is reminiscent of what it could feel like. I myself haven’t experienced that kind of paralysis but I’m sure that what it feels like.

While these elements come together nicely, I wish the lyrics matched the theme of the song a little closer. There’s moments within the lyrics like “you never know when you’re going to go, so you might as well live it to the full” which is a helpful reminder for the vocalist trying to push through the chaos even if the stress and surroundings don’t make sense. Sometimes the distortion of the songs makes some of his words a little lost to feel the full impact so thankfully the lyrics are included in the description.

It’s a lot to process but Francis introduces a common theme to song while presenting it as anxiety inducing as the paralysis can be.
