"Dreaming In Stereo", with its evocative title, is a single from the artist huron's most recent album "Mirage". I want to immediately start by stating that the song does make me want to go listen the album in its entirety, so I'd say mission accomplished! But let's see the music more in detail.
The track is a small gem of experimental pop, with a quite upbeat instrumental accompaniment where two distinct souls co-exist: on one side, we find heavily reverbered and slightly distorted instruments that possess a clear shoegaze attitude, and on the other side we have the a rhythm section which is rooted in melodic techno/dance music.
The vocals are also enriched with effects that give them a sort of ethereal character. I confess that I could not figure out most of the lyrics, especially in the first half of the song, so it felt like the vocals were more of a melodic instrument themselves. I don't know if that was the artist's intention, but I found it pleasant.
The peculiarity of this track is that it manages to sound both melancholic and uplifting at the same time. Maybe the fact that I couldn't understand the words actually helped in that sense. The ambiguity makes it ven more intriguing to me.
If the rest of the album is on the same level, I'm sure it will become a favourite of mine, and hopefully of yours too, dear reader.
