I am familiar with Gribbles work as we shared space on a compilation entitled "The Mystery of the Night" (https://trevlad.bandcamp.com/album/the-mystery-of-the-night), and while I was certainly proud of my own submission, if I were being honest I'd probably say that Gribbles track may have been my favorite! I don't know how I overlooked this on a previous perusal but happy to pontificate about it a bit!
Gribbles is a UK based electronic music producer who describes his music as 'laid-back electronica' and that's pretty spot on. An extremely high-quality mix of ambient, electronica, and techno adjacent tracks is what we are working with here. Pick pretty much anyplace in his discography as a starting point and you won't be disappointed!
In regards to the album at hand it starts perfectly with 'Agrestic' which eases you into Gribbles' sound world and, for this listener at least, hooks me right away. Mellow with some nice gentle beats, it leads into 'Beautiful Cool' which is a little more uptempo with a title that perfectly describes the vibe. Rather than bore a reader with a track by track breakdown, I'll highlight a few further favorites for me. 'Comets' is a beautiful piano-led ambient piece that feels very "soundtrack-y" if that makes sense. 'Sommeform' has great vocal sample and really, really nice head-nodding beat, it's the longest track on the album. 'The Echoing Green' is another beautiful ambient track. The album ends with two unreleased demos, both of which are quite strong!
So, I'm not an unbiased reviewer as I was a fan of his before I chose this one, but spending a little more time with it confirms what an execptional producer Gribbles is. Very highly recommended album and again strongly encourage diving into his catalog!
