Drove me insane, in a good way.
I'm not much of an ambient listener, i find it especially frustrating when you skip ahead on tracks and notice that the soundscape is exactly the same, making the entire track redundant and the length irrelevant
That is not the case with this album. Ambience music honestly deserves a specific mindset, it should be treated as an exploration of texture and color.
Etter is a great example of that, every track felt both unnerving and relaxing, and always tried new elements and layers every so often, keeping the project surprisingly fresh.
The soundscape is dense, oppressive, extremely industrial, surprisingly layered and strangely complex sometimes, it definitely makes me curious about the production process and what gear/samples went into them, and because of that, it also feels very creative.
I like the world that it communicates, I like the "fog" in which it envelops the listener and it definitely made me relive the scarier parts of the Silent Hill series.
It could either be because of my lack of experience with ambience music that fatigue started settling in, but right before i started getting aware of it, the last track, "Väktaren Vid Tröskeln" (Or "The Guardian of the Threshold") kicked in.
It was genuinely super different from the rest, the feeling of dread was pretty much instant, and to me, it felt the most musical out of them all, or at least with much more texture and harmony, truly a very haunting piece to end the project.
One of my favorite ambience albums so far, although i'm not much of an ambience listener in the first place, the rich industrial textures and layers made it quite memorable.
