Are you looking for some tasty sonic violence to mistreat you eardrums with? Do you need some music to channel the rage that you have bottled up during the week while reading the news or dealing with some idiots at work? Would you be interested in a serious headbanging workout to obtain massive neck muscle?
If you have answered "yes" to at least one of the previous questions, then you might find this album interesting. "Filth Film" by Dystopiate is a bone-shaking album, built on solid D-beat punk foundations but enriched with a guitar work that seems to borrow elements of thrash metal. Ten songs, rarely reaching 3 minutes of lenght, ten furious bursts of anger screamed to the listener's face by the rough voice of Cody (who is also responsible for the hailstorming basslines), while the other half of the devastating duo, Tom, slashes at us with the razor-sharp riffs of his guitar. I particularly liked the tone of the guitars, highly distorted but with a surprisingly clear mix that prevents the overall sound from excessively mudding up.
From the album notes is not clear who played drums on the record, or if they used a real drummer at all (but I think they did, and in case they didn't I am impressed by how real it sounds). In any case, the drumming is wild and furious, with an attitude that not only references the pillars of D-beat, but in some occasions reminds me of Motorhead (especially the Mikkey Dee era), which coincidentally were one of the first bands back in the day who were held in high regards by both punks and metalheads.
