‘Matty’ by Canadian band No Beauty is a great slab of melodic, grungy, indie guitar alt-rock that bears multiple listens. It’s got such a good feel, the sound of a band who love playing together make it stand out. Not a love song though “a bad dream about Matty” is a story about a relationship that promised much but didn’t deliver – dreams about Matty are really nightmares!

Songwriter, vocalist and guitarist Helena Zogogiannis has a great voice, the track is really nicely produced too - you can hear everything clear through the mix. I hear flavours of Pixies, Nirvana, maybe even Aimee Mann. All bodes well for the release of their forthcoming second album ‘Drive Slowly Think of Me’ which is out on 13 November 2026.

After my first listen of ‘Matty’ I thought wow, I bet they are a great band live! Sadly they are based in Hamilton, Ontario and I’m in Manchester, England so I won’t get the pleasure anytime soon, though they are doing a few dates in Canada October/November 2026 to promote their the album. Catch them if you can!
