This album reminds me of the first (and unfortunately for now the only) time I have been to a short film festival. in the span of a couple of hours I was faced with a handful of very diverse stories, each with its unique touch and atmosphere, with no apparent connection within each others, but nonetheless creating a greatly enjoyable collage all together.
This album follows a similar principle. The numerous tracks flow by, touching different genres and styles, mixing orchestral sequences with audio extracts from films and videos, field recordings, electronic and ambient passages. While scrolling through the tags list on bandcamp I was afraid that this "Mercurial Paradigm" could end up being a messy patchwork without a precise identity, but I'm glad to report that my fears have been completely swiped away. The album is cohesive, it holds your hands through the changing moods so that you never experience whiplash by going from the eeriest sections to the more peaceful ones.
I think there is a predominant melancholic undertone that helps glueing toghether all the different tiles of this beautiful mosaic. The sounds seem to come from a distant past of which you have some blurry memory, but that you can't fully grasp the feeling of. The audio inserts where you hear people talking are both familiar and unidentifiable (at least for me obviously), and create a sort of surreal experience where I felt like walking among someone else's memories.
Overall a very pleasant experience, with a surprisingly smooth flow. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
