Cower, Brief Mortal cover art

If you are a guitarist, chances are that at some point you have put your hands on a new pedal effect and before you even realised it, a few hours had gone by with you noodling and playing with it.

That's apparently the genesis of this "Cower, Brief Mortal" by the homonimous artist. A series of nameless ambient tracks where the artist explored the combination of a looper and a delay effect.

I'll be honest, this album does not transmit a lot of emotions, and I believe that the author is perfectly aware of that. Nonetheless, it contains that fascinating element of contagious curiosity, the innately human sense of pleasure that we experience when learning something new or when we see someone acquiring a new skill (and as someone who works as a teacher, I can guarantee it's so rewarding when you can see the gears starting to turn in your students head).

If you are reading this review there is a high chance you are a creative yourself, and therefore you will have no issue in putting yourself in the artist's shoes and let experience the pleasure of creating together with them.

What to expect musically from this album? The tracks are mostly slow and characterised by a dusty sound. The guitar gous through numerous metamorphoses, sometimes sounding like a distant wind, sometimes like the growl of an ancient beast, someties singing and sometimes dancing, sometimes whispering and sometimes screaming. Again, there might be not a lot of emotional depth, but it is definitely a great entertainment.

If you enjoy the music of Tashi Dorji but you want the much softer and more leaxed version, you should check this out.
