"The Color Bleeds" is a wonderful single (including the instrumental!) which imbodies the golden trip hop era and it´s values to the core.
Who doesn´t love crunchy amen breaks (honestly the beats are just pure beauty right from the start), lovely melodic and almost lazy rides included- all layered with a some Portishead key vibes, triggering and scratching, sound design and deep thoughts spoken with a charming accent? This is the full deal.
I live for music like this, though it basically fools you. It sounds simplistic with the first listen but the closer you lock in, the more you´ll discover. I can just find something new with each listen, subtle glitchy scratching, a retrigger accentuating the drop. It really reminded me of the time when we still exchanged tapes to listen to new music and how stunned I was when I heard Massive Attack for the first time because everything felt so intentional and meaningful.
If you enjoy trip hop like Portishead, Massive Attack or LAMB but with spoken word you will enjoy this single very much. It´s perfect for self reflection, contemplating or just really getting lost in a more complex piece of music.
What you get in short:
