I love this guy. The lesson.(2025) is the third track I've reviewed from the cosmic oddball known as D3la.HOZ and the more I hear the more I get what they're all about. All three tracks sound familiar enough to recognise as existing in the funky soulful r&b space, but strange enough to sound like almost nothing I've ever heard before.

The lesson is kinda different from previous tracks Everybody wanna do they shit and The STAR U'll never B in that it shows a much more sensitive side to this artist. Where those tracks were groovy and fun, this one is slower, more soulful, you can get a better sense of the human behind it. Tonally it reminds me a little of One Hundred Ways by Quincy Jones, a favourite of mine, but with enough of the strangeness I've come to associate with this artist to make it their own.

The main thing that stands out when listening to it is this absurdly loud slapped (bass?) guitar sound that cuts through all the dreamy synths and laid back vocals like a scalpel. I imagine some people would find it a little hard to deal with, and I did at first, but as you settle into the smooth groove it becomes an essential part of the song's rhythm. That rhythm which is also comprised for this big and steady boom bap beat.

I don't have a huge deal else to say about this one but I really loved it, maybe even more than Everybody wanna do they shit. It's nice to see a different side to this artist, who gets more and more interesting the more I listen to them.
