I'm getting strong "binaural beats" vibes from this track, although I don't think it is, technically speaking. It has a similar way of playing different notes over the stereo field—in each ear—and the music is slow and minimal with just one instrument playing sets of seemingly simple structures—although, when combined, becoming poly-rhythmical‽

Just like binaural beats, I would call this functional music, facilitating your brain entering certain wave states, like for example theta or delta to unlock creativity or deep sleep, respectively. I did in fact fall asleep pretty quickly and woke up when the music ended half an hour later. Even if purely coincidental, it was a good power nap. Speaking of power naps and inducing various brain states, I can't help but recall a few things:

• Salvador Dalí's "spoon and porcelain plate" sofa moments,
• that internet legend, allegedly based on a true story, about specifically crafted binaural beats, unknowingly—or knowingly—recreating the nu-complexes, I suppose, and, thusly, causing those who listened to enter a permanent coma state,
• that movie about mowing your lawn with a custom machine, built specifically for the occasion. "_colonies" by Halfway Dive could have been used in the scene where they are playing specifically crafted video games while not being brainwashed at all. :)

The artist doesn't mention anything about binaural beats, brain waves, creativity, deep sleep, nor anything about mowing your lawn, in the track description. That's all on me just listening. There are also no scientific evidence for binaural beats—or similar—working as intended. If it works, it works, though. Kind of like ASMR. Same thing for this music.

Reading the artist's own description, it seems to partly be a tech demo:

a.k.a. _spores 2! A longer track I made to show off a new Patch I made in FL in spirit of the aforementioned _spores.

The _spores track was apparently inspired by the ambient soundtrack to the video game called Spores. Looking at the artist's full production, there seems to be a clear theme of molluscs. That might also be what the cover art for _colonies is about. A smiling mollusc, perhaps‽

• That movie is "The Lawnmower Man" from 1992 about a well-intended, albeit military-sponsored, researcher and his neighbour cutting his lawn, both literally and later figuratively, after entering a state of heightened brain activity while being used as a human guinea pig and more or less brainwashed.
• No, I don't think this track is meant to "brainwash" us. If it is, it's the positive kind. :)
