Finally! An opportunity for me to put my Master's Degree in Chemistry to use! That's what I thought when I read the title of this album, which had also attracted me with its cover art. Let's discover together how that went.
The album consists of a series of generally short tracks, mostly centred on layered string tracks, sometimes backed up by athmospheric pads. A couple of songs, namely "Vegan Peanut Butter Shake" and "Ekahs Rettub Tunaep Nagev" (it took way too long to realise that it's the same title spelled backwards, and I believe also part of the songs are the same played backwards?) also feature a spoken word track.
The various tracks are all very trippy, with a strong focus on the textures of the different string instruments, exploring a wide palette of sounds that span from clean acoustic to heavily-effected electric. Melodies and harmonies are often spiced up with subtle dissonances, the alternance between distorted riffs and clean arpeggios creates a disorienting feeling, and the rhythms are irregular and constantly changing. All of these elements contribute to create the feeling of being trapped inside a particularly intense fever dream.
Would I recommend this album? Well, it is surely not an easy listen, and it requires to be in the right mood, but if these conditions are met it's a great experience!
