This is my first experience with HURON, even though the Internet tells me that they have been producing and releasing music since 2006. 'Mirage' is I imagine the most recent album from this project, having been released in early 2026. The Bandcamp tags of 'electronic' 'ambient' and 'shoegaze' among others, are pretty excellent descriptors.

The title track starts as if the song is already playing and you've just been dropped into the middle of it, which is a very cool effect and catches the listeners ear immediately! A cool way to kick off an album. 'Dreaming in Stereo' is a very 1980s new wave pop sounding track, and that is NOT an insult, the central hook has been in my head since hearing it. I challenge you not to be humming this to yourself. 'Death Bloom' similarly has a wonderful earworm melody that will get stuck in your head, while you're nodding along to the great beat. 'Tinfoil Stars' is another amazing 80s new wave track that sounds kinda like a ton of other great artists but not one that I can exactly put my finger on, which is about as good a compliment as one can pay I think! 'Memory Wanderer' has also been stuck in my head all day!

As far as I can tell HURON is a one-person project. The vocals have a very unique quality to them, they suit the music perfectly and do a great job of captivating the listener. The lyrics are a little hard to make out but I actually find that to be a positive, the melodies are very strong and it's almost like HURON is inviting you to assign your own mood and feelings to the tracks, they're just providing you with the melody!

If you like ambient electronica with strong new-wave/shoegaze influences than HURON should be on the very short list of artists you should be familiarizing yourself with, and you should add 'Mirage' to your Bandcamp wishlist ASAP!
