9stationdissolve - "NIGHT COLORS" album review

NIGHT COLORS is an album that transports the listener to an empty city at night. With drum sounds that seem to behave like the lights of skyscrapers, appearing and disappearing, and synthesizer textures that drift like fog, it immerses us in a cyberpunk atmosphere.

It reminds me of some ambient works by 暗号零 and 2814, although with a more minimalist approach and one that relies less on sampling. In fact, unless I'm mistaken, it doesn't seem to use samples of any kind. The overall sound is highly ethereal and very pleasant to the ear.

The tracks I enjoyed the most were impossible things and the sky looks different now, but I still feel that the album works best as a complete piece. I wouldn't place one track above another. Rather, those songs stand out as particularly strong moments within the album as a whole. It feels clear that the tracks were not conceived individually, but as parts of a larger unified work.

It should be said that this is a repetitive album, but never a boring one. Its relatively short runtime also helps, bringing it closer to an EP than a full-length album. It may be ideal for immersing yourself in a task that requires a high level of concentration, as the music flows effortlessly without constantly demanding your attention. Good work from 9stationdissolve.

SPOILER ALERT (I never thought I'd write that in a music review): One particularly striking aspect of the album is that there are moments when a powerful kick drum comes in and gives the impression that the music is about to turn into techno, but it never does. It leaves a strange sensation behind. It's an interesting choice to never break that tension and instead remain fully committed to the ambient aesthetic throughout.

Thank you for taking the time to listen and review my music.

These tracks are designed to listen to from beginning to end and I think they are more effective when listened to together. The reference to 2814 is interesting as I have those records but I feel my infulence here was listening to The Black Queen more than other things but now that you mention it, 2814 must have been in my thoughts too. The album is also infulenced by the visuals in Majora's Mask (The Observatory from that game was a strong visual idea I had when writing this EP).

Thanks for listening to it.

No, thank you for the music; it was a pleasure to listen to. In fact, it was quite refreshing, as I'd been listening to more hardcore music lately and needed a bit of calm. My mention of 2814 refers more to the atmosphere it conveys than the production itself. Where I do find a greater sonic similarity is with 暗号零, especially with the album VOID-002. Anyway, what you do sounds very original; the comparison, as I mentioned, was just a bridge to the sensations I experienced while listening. In fact, I love that kind of music; perhaps we can collaborate in the future :)

I often listen to music opposite to what I make and from that you can draw from different places.

Again, thanks for listening.
